Not sure how it has such a high rating; very rude service, stale chips, watery salsa, dishes do not match menu descriptions. Seems that some reviews are correct that they just microwave some dishes and use canned ingredients.
Very good restaurant, great food, atmosphere and nice and polite people.
Great food!
Delicious Mexican food.
Comal is always our first stop when we visit Ruidoso. It is a small family owned Mexican food restaurant. We love the chili relleno plate. I forgot to take a picture this time so I am including a picture from our last visit.
Nice small family owned place with a unique menu. The Chile Relleno is delicious and the salsa is too notch. I am sure the rest of the menu is fantastic.
Excellent food. Fresh ingredients. Cozy spot. Good prices.
They refused to server our party of nine. They later insulted us with swear words and kicked us out. Never going there again.
The food was delicious! Tacos were really good as was the burrito. The patio is always a pretty place to sit and eat.
1st time there. Went with a friend who had been there many times. His meal looked awesome & the fajita's @ the next table looked & smelled just as good. Excellent service
Food was good. Friendly and fast.
When you are in the mood for a relaxing authentic Mexican meal, this is the place. It is owned and operated locally and the family is very nice. Inside the restaurant is quite cozy, but outside there's a beautiful courtyard and on a nice summer day in the mountains it is a breath of fresh air. The food is cooked to order and the portions are large. I love the enchiladas with traditional mole sauce that they call "enmoladas". And don't forget dessert here. This isn't fast food quality or speed, but rather a meal to savor. It is located in a funky shopping center that can present a problem with parking so get there early.
The most amazing and authentic Mexican food! You can taste the labor of love in their food! Life customer!
This is the best hole in the wall resturant in town authentic Mexican food all the time. I love there Mexico City tacos and the enchiladas.
Extremely bad service. They refused to assist us just because we were a party of 9. They were extremely rude, and insulted us all with cuss words. Worst customer service I have ever experienced.
Walked in restaurant and first thing lady said, how many people. We said 6, then she said we can't help u. We only have 1 cook and we have a big party. What poor customer service, never going there again. Poor Mexican hospitality. I was like wow.
We stopped in on a Saturday afternoon expecting average food, but found a real gem! The food was great. All four of us enjoyed all our dishes (tacos, enchiladas, chimichangas). They had a special with flan as the dessert and it was amazing!! Best ever. We may drive down from Albuquerque again just for the flan!! The place is very small so get there early. If you have to wait, it’s worth it!!
The food was amazing and the atmosphere even more. This family owned restaurant was small and peaceful. Amazing!
Food was amazing! Service was great and very fast.. would definitely recommend 👌👌
Ok. This is the best cup of tortilla soup I’ve ever had. And I’ve had a lot. This place is family run, and you can tell, not super fancy but with food this good it’s not the point. Go here, get the soup. It’s amazing.
Great food, great service
This is one of the top three Mexican food places in town. Outside of the tourist season it seems never busy
Supper good food
The beans tasted rotten and sooo many more issues with the food. Staff was fine.
This place was a true disappointment. I don't understand how it has so many good reviews. We had the nachos and they were completely flavorless. The steak fajitas were good but the sides of beans and rice were still cold and rice was raw. The beef chimichangas tasted so bad, my niece almost threw up. Three out of 7 plates were left untouched. The service was good but as we were eating the place was filling up and it looked like the server was in a rush to get us out the door. Honestly we will not be coming back. Not real mexican food at all!!!
For my Texas peeps: The red chile enchilada sauce is HOMEMADE. It's a tiny place, but this is one of those little jewels with authentic Mexican food like you find in Texas border towns. Prices are great. Service, too. Queso was a little un-Texan but hey - we're in NM.
Good food, friendly staff 😊
Awesome food great people highly recommend it!!
Small little "nothing to look at" nestled amongst hustle and bustle. Wonderful atmosphere, superior food and service. Made to order, hot and delicious home style Mexican fare. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience with my family, it was an awesome opportunity for a little unassuming restaurant. They were attentive and it felt like being a guest at a friends dining table, recommend 100 percent, two thumbs way up. Take a trip to Ruidoso with an empty belly.
Takes a while to get in, but we'll worth the wait.
Although the staff were pleasant and friendly, the food was bland. The chips were stale, and beef burrito had no flavor. Tortilla on burrito appeared to be store-bought. Green sauce was store bought. Rice and beans were bland-no taste. I was disappointed, as this is a "Mexican" restaurant in New Mexico. Kitchen grill was in view from our table, but all that was cooked was warming tortillas. I did not see anything else on their stove. This place does not serve "authentic" Mexican food.
So good!!! Try the red cheese enchiladas!!
The initial pictures I saw of this place made it seem much bigger, there were just about 5 tables, so very small...I ordered the red cheese enchiladas with beans & rice and a ground beef taco on the side with Xtra cheese...the rice was a light colored rice with corn bits, beans were also very light in a thin watery sauce but both tasted fine, the enchiladas were good and very mild...my problem was the taco, it was served in a store bought pre-made shell, it did come with lots of cheese but the cheese and taco over all was cold...bland...I also had a tea with the meal, the ticket was typical at $12.40...if you just want a quick meal at a standard price and don't care about ambiance or eating 7 feet from the kitchen this place is for you.
Excellent, friendly service, and great food! Made me feel right at home. Will definitely go back and recommend to other people.
Yummy, traditional, moderate price
Charming atmosphere. Fantastic red, green and mole sauces. Prompt and clearly homemade. Best Mexican food we’ve had during our two week visit to New Mexico.
A true Mom and Pop Mexican restaurant. The food was prepared fresh. I read the reviews before we ate here, and wasn't disappointed. Several folks recommended the mole...wow, were they right. A home made mole that will have you wanting to come here for more. A new favorite restaurant for us when in Ruidoso.
The enchalidas were awesome, the sweet tea is on point. Nice little spot for a quiet dinner. Great service.
Best mexican food and service
Excellent authentic food at great prices. Luv the green sauce. Chilli relleno are Great. Over all I'd give them a (6 out of 5) Any better and I would have to move here....
the owner is very aggressive and rude without any reason even when I was with my family , just because we were 9 people and he accused me of disrespecting his wife when I only said good afternoon to his wife, I do not recommend it to anyone
Stopped here for the first time the other day . It was great . We instantly loved the place when we seen it was a family owned restaurant. The waitress was very sweet and attentive. Her father the chef was super fast preparing our lunch which was amazing. We will definitely be visiting again soon .
Yummy Mexican food and a little off the beaten path.
The chips and salsa were stale and bland but the Mexico City tacos were to die for! Absolutely fantastic! Super friendly staff! Definitely will return when we come back up.
Awesome food and best service!
Excellent food and service. The perfect place to hide during a storm.
First time there and very bad experience! We had a party of 6 and the lady said she couldn't serve us that she only had one cook and a big party already. There are ways to say it and the way she said it was very rude. Never again!!
The internet said it was open. When I arrived with my husband and daughter, the place was close. What disappointing.
Hands down, worst restraunt I have experienced. We showed up about 3pm on a Thursday and were the only people there. We ordered 3 hot meals and a taco salad. Being the only folks there we heard the microwave run 3 times. We got 3 microwaved meals and a taco salad full of water. The grill never turned on, nor did the oven. The cook was also the server and all 4 people had food within 10 minutes. Bad food, bad service, no alcohol. Will never return and would never suggest this place to anyone. If you like canned chicken quesadillas that are microwaved this may be a good place for you.
I consider myself a connieseur of both Arnold Palmers and Chile relleno, and Comal excelled at both. The food was excellent and well priced, and the waitress was very friendly and accommodating. Thank you. We'll stop by again.
